In this post, I would like to introduce the ways that the "rules" of IB english a essay applied in practice.

As you all know, Paper 2 is a pretty grand task that requires you to write a fairly deep and thorough comparative analysis of two literary works based on the selected essay topic.

And obviously, as it is a 'comparative essay', you have more complicated and demanding things to write down in each paragraph which can be quite overwhelming.

Through a following sample body paragraph, you shall have a reference on how to communicatively and thoroughly deliver your analysis.

Then, let’s first check the essay topic!

Q. The depiction of violence in some form (cultural, political, physical, psychological, etc) is a central preoccupation of many works of literature. In at least two of the works you have studied discuss how violence is depicted and explore its significance.

Checked the paper 2 essay prompt above? The most important thing in the Paper 2 essay is to fully understand the tasks of the prompt and answer precisely. The prompt above asks you to analyse the concept of Violence, a relatively common keyword in literature.

Firstly, you must analyse HOW and in WHAT ways, there are three types of various violences in your two literary works.

And secondly! The significance of these various violence must be analysed in each body paragraph.

Following is a sample body paragraph, check the quality of writing!

The very first type of violence that students analysed with the two lit works is “physical violence.” You can clearly see this by looking at the first sentence, the topic sentence.

Regarding the "physical violence" that is observed in the first work, the student brought quotations from the first play and analyse "how" and "why" the characters show "physical violence." And its significance as well.

Following analysis is about the second work, “how” and “why”, “physical violence” occurs and its significance.

Lastly, it was concluded by summarising the similarities and differences between the two works on the topic of 'physical violence'.
