In this post, for Y1 students who have chosen or will choose Economics as A subject, I will let you check out the “Excellent” Economics EE topics and research questions selected by IBO and help you formulate your own decent RQ.

What characteristics do “Excellent” English A Extended Essay topics and RQs have in common?
A. Focused on one very ‘specific’ economic issue or policy. Because EE research is much longer and more in-depth than IA, students often make mistakes by choosing a topic that is too broad attempting to analyse multiple concepts or policies together, but when actually doing EE research, this is very challenging and causes the colour of EE to be lost.
B. The time period or industry or target stakeholders that researched are also very 'specific' in practice. Rather than conducting research on the U.S. government's policies targeting all Americans, very specifically, specific period of time e.g: 2019-2020, specific industry, e.g: electric car industry, specific stakeholders e.g: Americans in their 20s and 30s
C. And the ‘topic’ the students chose was worth studying. It is a topic that many people would agree is worthy of paying attention to and studying. And it is a topic that is convincing, realistic and persuasive when answering the question why the student chose this 'topic' in the reflection form.
