What's the 'Excellent' English A Extended Essay Topics and Research Question that were 'chosen' by IBO?

Updated: Jan 17

Every year, IBO selects “Excellent” Extended Essays for each subject among EEs submitted by IB Candidates around the world. They release them so that students and school teachers can refer to them.

Amongst Y1 pupils, some of you may have received basic instruction on EE, and if you have not started yet, you will start after this winter vacation. And there are many Y2 pupils who are busy finishing their EE right now, right?

In this post, for Y1 students who have chosen or will choose English A Lit or English A Lang & Lit as EE subjects, I will let you check out the “Excellent” English A EE topics and research questions selected by IBO and help you formulate your own decent RQ.

What characteristics do “Excellent” English A Extended Essay topics and RQs have in common?

A. The works selected possess both academic and literary significance. These are the works that are not too casual and have important literary messages such as social, cultural, political, etc.

B. The RQs chose to analyse the work by focusing on one ‘specific’ topic. The students focused on topics or literary devices that are very "unique" and have literary value in the selected work that are not generic or obvious.

C. And the ‘topic’ the student chose is worth studying. It is a topic that many people would agree is worth studying, analysing, and paying attention to as a student living in modern society.

If you go to the link below, you can actually read all of the EEs above. I recommend checking out one or two EEs that you may be interested in or that may be of help or reference.

Cheers!
